About The Role

Due to continued business growth, an exciting and newly created role has now arisen to join our Production night shift as Shift Manager. Reporting into the Senior Production Manager, we are looking for a strong leader to manage production staff in delivering a quality and customer focused efficient packing operation on a nightly basis, ensuring that production is planned for the products to be packed on time to meet scheduled collection times and budgetary constraints.

Accountable for the end to end management of business unit from managing efficiency, productivity, operational, people planning and budget management.

Other key responsibilities will include, but not limited to: 
  • Accountable for developing and maintaining a highly competent and engaged team by identifying areas of improvement in order to maintain a highly competent skills base. 
  • Management and development of people, ensuring that team issues are resolved effectively and decisions are consistent and in line with company policy.
  • Work with the operations and planning teams to ensure the correct stock is available for production on time and with the correct quantities
  • Manage specific shift within the Packhouse and supporting departments to achieve operational targets & ensure procedures are adhered to.
  • Champion a culture of “world class” performance through the implementation of Lean manufacturing techniques in order to improve quality, safety and reduce costs. 
  • Develop and maintain safe working practices, operating and quality procedures within the pack house and ensure that a high standard of hygiene and housekeeping is maintained at ALL times.
  • Formulate and implement personal development and training plans for Senior Section Leaders and Line Leaders and ensure all company requirements with regards to the safety, quality and legality of the product are adhered to.
  • Control labour requirements on short and long term forecasting.
  • Carry out all investigatory & disciplinary action as and when required.
  • Control staff holidays and working rotas.
  • Monitor daily performance of the packhouse and taking a proactive approach to improve underperforming areas through coaching, training and redeployment of skills as necessary.
  • Lead and encourage active participations in daily meetings, reporting/ highlighting any areas of concern. Innovate new ways of working utilising the current framework and add value.

About You

We are looking for an individual with a solid working background in FMCG, with a focus on Fresh Produce highly desirable. Your skills and experience will include: 
  • Management of a Production team in a labour intensive environment 
  • Experience of working within a KPI driven environment, with the ability to utilise data to drive performance
  • Working with agency labour providers and agency team members from various cultural backgrounds.
  • A working knowledge of Warehouse management systems such as Rubicon would be an advantage.
  • Working to British Retail Consortium manufacturing standards and managing the audit process from production / operations team perspective.
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Confident manager with the ability to drive performance in a workforce of various skills
